...about me

My mom was a seamstress, my grandmother was a seamstress. I sewed my first clothing collection at fifteen, the first summer my parents left me alone, I took my lifeguarding paycheck and bought fabric. I made shorts, skirts, shirts –one of those patterns that you can make your whole wardrobe from, everything with elastic waists, no buttons, not one zipper. This was not an attractive look for me and I do not actually remember wearing any of them, but I knew then, that I loved to create.

I was in the art crowd in high school, I painted, I photographed, I sculpted, wore a lot of black. I dated boys that liked girls in black. In college, I decided to major in Interior Design. I loved college, especially all the electives; I learned to weave on a huge loom, oil paint, throw pottery on a wheel, metal arts (bad experience), diving (confusing time). I couldn’t find a job in design when I came out into the world so, I became a florist. I moved to Charlotte, NC. I did huge elaborate hotel entry arrangements, wedding reception pieces larger than the bride, I was poor. I finally got a break at design. I was good. I was great – in the banking world kind of way, where everything is green and tan with navy accents. I was now poor in a whole new way. Many years later I ended up right back where I started. Here, in Kansas City. But this time I was in a position to make a leap. Do what I want, the way I imagine it.

I have a love for the traditional, the staples, the things that are timeless – good linens, simple jewelry, accessories that were found, not bought from a catalog, personalized stationery, my grandmothers wardrobe, real wood doors that really BANG! when you slam them, things handmade, the original.

I have brought all of my loves to this website. I design original stationery, because we should all take the time to write. I make home accessories that are not mass produced, each is one of a kind. I create gifts that show you cared enough to look a little further for the perfect item. Everything at do drop in is made with care.

Enjoy!
